Smart shower repaired after the manufacturer said it could not be
A digital shower in a house in Marple that had stopped responding to its controller. Two plumbers had said replace it, and the manufacturer had said the model was discontinued and unrepairable.

The brief
The customers liked the shower and did not want to retile the wall to fit a different one, which is what a replacement would have meant. They wanted someone to actually look at what had failed rather than quote for a new one.
What made it awkward
- The fault could have been the controller, the wiring, the processor unit in the loft or the mixer valve inside it. Each is a different part and a different price.
- The manufacturer no longer listed the model, so parts had to be identified from the unit itself and sourced from a supplier who still held stock.
- The processor unit was in a loft with poor access and had to be tested in place before anything was ordered.
What I did
- First visit: tested the controller and the wiring, then got into the loft and tested the processor unit. The fault was the mixer valve inside the unit, not the electronics.
- Identified the valve from the unit markings, found a supplier with stock, and gave the customers a price for the part and the second visit before ordering.
- Second visit: valve replaced, unit reassembled, shower run for fifteen minutes and checked for leaks at every connection.
The result
A working shower, no retiling, and a bill a fraction of a replacement. Martin H.'s review is this job: 'despite having been told by other plumbers and the manufacturer that our smart shower was not fixable, Declan was able to source a new part'.
What the customer said
Despite having been told by other plumbers and the manufacturer that our smart shower was not fixable, Declan was able to source a new part and we now have a working shower as good as new. Declan kept us informed along the way, turned up when he said he would and did a fantastic job.
